How the Serendipitous Nature of Life Can Help Us Find Our Purpose: Helena Fern
Helena talks about the role of serendipity in determining your path in working life. In a world where we are all striving to work out what our master plan is, Helena explores how the notion of serendipity - something good that comes along by surprise – can help you explore your values and help you strive for purpose beyond the pressures of academic performance and career success. Helena has over ten years of experience working in the social enterprise and not-for-profit sector both in Australia and abroad. Her roles have focussed on developing skills and values within university students that go beyond the traditional experience of being at university. She is currently Program Manager of the Green Steps program, an international student sustainability leadership program run through the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, which focuses on shaping thinking about how to transition to a more sustainable world. She has worn many hats in her career as marketer, education designer, mentor, sales and trainer and has been awarded for her work in student entrepreneurship as the 2010 UK Enterprise Educator of the Year. Helena has an undergraduate degree in fine art and a post-graduate certificate in marketing and is originally from Perth, Western Australia.
